MALAMBO – THE DANCE OF LIFE – THE DANCE OF FIRE

Legion Malambo stands for a close, elite group of life warriors. Together, they are like gladiators working hard and “rowing against wind and tide” to reach their goals and dreams without ever losing faith , love or passion.”

A legion of artists, dreamers, hard workers and culture lovers who trust in me, believe in me and support me in every project we undertake as a team. They have my most sincere respect and gratitude for this.”

——   Mora Godoy, general art director of Mora Godoy Tango Company

The structure of Malambo dancing consists in a group of “mudanzas”, which are strategically performed in series so to allow the dance to develop its intensity, sound and speed. The purpose of a mudanza is to create a figure one foot at a time by executing the same movements in two different transitions. It is a combination of various basic zapateos, in which a variety of a atmospheres, musicals languages and dynamics can be evoked. It is hard – if not possible – to passively sit still during a performance of Malambo. As pounding feet unleash the driving force of the most compelling Argentine traditional dance, one is inevitably mesmerized and captivated. It is a game in which the dancers’ legs, knees, ankles, attitude and balance contribute to the ritual. Each performance defies gravity by allowing its audience to “fly” over the Argentine pampas, as the cracking sound of a warming fire blends with the distant echo of a guitarreada.

The first zapatoes, or first stomps on the floor, are always greeted by a silent yet curious crowd. What follows is easier seen than described, it is “almost a trans-dimentional space travel.”Feet and legs move at a unnatural speed, with the dance as high-paced and intriguing as the life itself. That is perhaps Malambo is life.

EXCITING. COMPELLING. ALIVE.

Strength, Passion and Speed – the Argentina Identity

To meet through the word, music, images.

Meet our past, our present, our future.

Meet the deep mysteries of Argentina that sprout from mother nature.

To find through our music, our poetry, our history and our popular knowledge…

The unique style of Malambo comes from the combination of different styles: drama, contemporary dance, capoeira, flamenco, beat boxing, hip hop and martial arts.

The evolution of this art lies in continuous research and creation. It is important to keep on working with discipline and keeping our traditions in mind, while we keep them alive.
